Sukanta Majumdar rebukes CM Mamata for criticizing PM Modi; Calls for flag march to celebrate Op Sindoor

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event in Alipurduar on Thursday. Majumdar stated that Mamata Banerjee needs to learn what to say and when to say it, adding that using harsh words against a sitting Prime Minister indicates a lack of education and suitability for her role as Chief Minister.

Majumdar responded specifically to Mamata Banerjee’s objections regarding the implementation of central government schemes in West Bengal. He mentioned that the Prime Minister asked why schemes such as the Vishwakarma scheme and Ayushman Bharat have not been implemented in the state. Majumdar highlighted that Mamata Banerjee opposed the presence of the Prime Minister’s picture on posters and hoardings related to Ayushman Bharat, questioning whose image she would prefer instead.

The minister also suggested that the Chief Minister should organize a flag march in West Bengal to celebrate Operation Sindoor, a recent military success. He said, "Operation Sindoor is a major victory of our armed forces and we will celebrate it. TMC should also celebrate... They should organize a flag march in their stronghold Diamond Harbour among their vote bank." He further mentioned that elections will be held on time and dismissed the need for challenges from the ruling party.

These remarks were made following Mamata Banerjee’s criticism of Prime Minister Modi after his public address in Alipurduar. Banerjee said, "Listening to what Modi ji said today, we are not only stunned but also very saddened. When the opposition represents the country... in his presence, his minister said they would do Operation Bengal like Operation Sindoor. I challenge them — if they have the courage, go to the elections tomorrow, we are ready, and Bengal is ready to accept your challenge."
